Our Story

The Crossing Church began as a group of disciples in 1987 unified with a simple desire – to be a community of people who truly know God, value one another, and live out His love in the world around them. Led by Dr. Pete Kunkel, the church quickly took shape and got on mission.

Over time, that simple desire has shaped everything we have become. What began as one congregation has grown through seasons of faith and sacrifice into a church with two campuses and a heart for serving beyond our walls. Our story is not defined by buildings or programs – it is defined by people.

Today, that same mission is lived out through a community of every age and season of life. From our food truck ministry and weekday Bible studies to senior fitness classes, we see commit in Christ as something that reaches into everyday life, not just Sunday mornings.

As our church has grown, so has our commitment to serve others. Our mission extends into our neighborhoods and across the world through partnerships with organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse, The Salvation Army, City Lights, and others. Whether we are sharing food with those in need, providing clothing for families, or walking alongside people in difficult seasons, these are not simply programs to us—they are expressions of a faith that believes love should be visible and hope should be shared.

Through every season, one thing has remained the same…

We exist because we believe people are created to know God, to be valued as His image-bearers, and to live a life of love shaped by Jesus and we continue to be a community learning how to follow Christ together, one step at a time.

Our Mission

Know, Value, and Love God and Others

Our mission flows from the life and teachings of Jesus and shapes everything we do as a church.

We exist to help people know God, not simply with information, but through a growing relationship with Him. Jesus taught that eternal life is found in knowing the Father, and we believe faith begins when lives are grounded in who God is and what He has done through Christ.

We seek to value people as God created them. Every person bears His image and is worthy of dignity, grace, and belonging. In Christ, we learn to see one another not by background, ability, or status, but as brothers and sisters called into one family of faith.

And we are called to love like Jesus. His love moves us outward to serve, to forgive, to give generously, and to bring hope into the world around us. Love is not just something we believe; it is something we practice in real and practical ways.

Together, Know, Value, and Love describe the way we follow Jesus, the way we treat one another, and the way we live out our faith every day.

“This is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” John 17:3

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

What drives us

Values

Our values guide how we live out our mission together as a church. They shape our decisions, our relationships, and our witness in the world.

Following Jesus is our calling.

Everything begins with Jesus. We believe that every person is invited into a growing relationship with Him. As followers of Christ, our desire is to know Him more deeply, become more like Him, and live out His love in our homes, workplaces, schools, and community. Following Jesus is not simply a decision—it is a lifelong journey of faith and obedience.

The Bible is our authority.

God’s Word is the foundation for everything we believe and do. The Bible reveals God’s character, His plan for humanity, and His truth for everyday life. We look to Scripture as our guide for faith, practice, and decision-making, trusting that it is relevant, trustworthy, and transformative.

Unity is our pursuit.

We are stronger together. Because we are united in Christ, we strive to build relationships marked by love, grace, humility, and mutual respect. While we may come from different backgrounds and experiences, we are one church with one mission—to help people know, value, and love God and others.

Serving is our passion.

Jesus came to serve, and we seek to follow His example. We believe every person has unique gifts and talents that can be used to make a difference. Whether serving within the church or throughout the community, we are committed to putting our faith into action by caring for others and meeting practical needs with compassion.

Generosity is our practice.

We serve a generous God, and we desire to reflect His heart. Generosity is more than giving financially—it is a lifestyle of freely sharing our time, talents, resources, and encouragement with others. We believe that God blesses us so that we can be a blessing, and we joyfully invest in His work both locally and around the world.

Our Beliefs

We Believe

We believe in a God who is greater than anything we face and closer than we can imagine. God is our Creator, our Redeemer, and our Sustainer. He is faithful in every season and powerful enough to lead us, comfort us, and guide our lives.

We believe the Bible is God’s Word and our guide for faith and life. Through Scripture, God reveals His truth, shapes our hearts, and leads us in the way of Christ.

We believe in one God who is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father loves the world He created. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to show us the heart of God through His life, death, and resurrection. The Holy Spirit is present and active today, working in the lives of believers to teach, strengthen, and transform us.

We believe salvation is a gift of grace made possible through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not something we earn, but something we receive. Through Jesus, we are forgiven, made new, and invited into a life of hope and purpose.

We believe baptism is a response of faith and obedience to Jesus. It is a moment that marks new life in Christ and our commitment to follow Him as part of His church.

Rooted in the spirit of the Restoration Movement, we seek to follow Jesus simply and faithfully, trusting Scripture and striving for unity among God’s people. Our desire is not to build a perfect church, but to be a community that loves God, loves others, and lives out the message of Jesus in the world.

Above all, we believe that God is greater than our doubts, our failures, and our fears. He alone is strong enough to save, wise enough to lead, and loving enough to walk with us every step of the way.
